Societal Pressure on School Students
Societal Pressure on School Students
Today's blog is based on "Societal Pressure on School Students". School students are going through high stress due to the expectations to always perform better than other students. Their parents are no less affected by this race since there is always great pressure from society in the form of comparison, results, and overall performance among other things. We share with parents how they can cope up with the social hassles and also help their children to study without any tension and anxiety and perform well at school. Human beings are social animals and to live in society it is necessary to conform to the rules and regulations as defined for centuries. But sometimes, one has to deviate from the orthodox set of rules to concentrate on one’s family and children.
When parents are questioned
This is one of the most awkward and embarrassing situations. Right from the neighbors, relatives, friends, colleagues at the workplace, in fact, everyone who knows the parents has a few selected questions for them. Like, how did your son do in the exams? What is the percentage, rank, division, etc.? Why did he score so low? Didn’t you arrange for tutors, extra classes? We could have referred you to the best coaching institute if you would have asked, and so on.
This is frustrating for parents since they are made to feel as if they have not taken the studies of their child seriously or compromised on the quality of coaching. Poor fellows are even told that their child might not make it to the next level with the marks scored. This fills them with a sense of insecurity thus leading to tension at home.
Here, parents must realize that the most important thing in their life is their child. Hence, they must focus all their attention on him and do whatever they can to make sure that he does well according to his merit and potentials.
When the child is compared
This part has been discussed numerous times and been covered on television programs, in newspapers and magazines, and of late on online platforms as well.
People just want the child to be like the other child, in fact even better. Be it the neighbors, family, friends, co-worker, or one’s brother or sister. This comparison is not only unreasonable but very dangerous for the overall health and growth of the child. These demands and expectations will lead to disastrous consequences.
Parents should remember that every child is unique and different from the other. Each one has its own set of exclusive talents and capacities and that is how the approach should be. Identify the strengths and weaknesses and nurture the child accordingly.
Societal pressure
What will people say? This question mostly hurled at the students and parents by family, friends, neighbors, and much surprisingly by themselves, is counted as one of the biggest killers of their self-belief, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
Parents and students must believe in themselves. They have to understand that people will say a lot many things, give many opinions, feedback, suggestions, pass judgments and so on, but it is they who know their capacity and caliber the best and that is how they ought to perform and not to the satisfaction of the society.
This societal pressure causes immense stress to the students and their parents as well. Here, it is strongly advised that you completely ignore these negative and off-putting observations from society and concentrate on your life and ways to make it better, both at academic and personal levels.
